Different year trucks require different fluid for the 47RE transmission. What year is your truck?
Quantity depends on how your doing the drain process.

Up to and including 2000 model autos require ATF+3 fluid.

If your just draining the pan approx. 6-7 quarts, depends how long truck has been sitting without being driven as to amount. The longer a vehicle sits the more drain back from the converter and transmission into the pan, up to a certain point.

If you were looking for the best (questionable) without cost ATF+4 synthetic is suppose to be the best.

Amsoil synthetic lowers trans temp by 10 to 20 degrees and will protect planetaries a bit better . Ant synthetic trans oil should do the same . ATF 4 is not a full synthetic
