I occasionally pull and clean the IAT and MAP sensors on my truck but have never really noticed much of a change....

Your symptoms are smelling of fuel delivery issues I am thinking.... I can look in my fsm for a MAP resistance....stand by

Well apparently the FSM has a big section on MAP troubleshooting and the voltage varies between 0.5-4.5v across range monitored by PCM....

Can you get your hands on a FSM or download a copy?

I think I have a digital copy.
Are you saying that if it is out of the .5- 4.5v range to replace it?
Thanks,

That would be above my pay grade, but may be correct. I hate throwing parts at my truck, but after reading your thread thoroughly, I can't narrow it down any more than it has been.

I had about the same problem with my 2002 pulling my 5th wheel to Montana. I checked all of the bakes on the truck and the 5th wheel with an IR gun. One of the brakes on the 5th wheel was very hot. Found a broken spring in the brake on that wheel. Replaced the brake springs and that cured the problem.

This is the second story like this. It is plausible but didn't you smell the hot brakes? I have had brakes stick before and there is a definite brake smell. I guess the best way to check is to pull them off and check.
Thanks,

Thanks,
A temp. gun is your friend for finding brakes that are dragging easily.

No, I didn't smell hot brakes on the trailer, even when I was checking the temp with the IR gun. The brake wasn't totally locked up. It was dragging enough to really pull down the power.

Ok good to know. I will hook it up when the rain stops and take it for a good pull, and shoot the brakes with a temp gun.
I'll update when I do it.
Thanks,

I hooked the trailer up, pulled it down the highway, and then checked the temps. 3 of them were at around 90 and 1 was at around 97. I don't think that is enough to be conclusive.

I bought and installed new Injectors. DAP 100HP PERFORMANCE INJECTORS 7X0.009 SAC. The injectors I pulled out look pretty carboned up, but I have not had them tested or inspected.
I'll be hooking up a trailer similar to mine on the 16, so I will see how it goes....

Ok All, I think I may have found the issue. Prior to my original post above, I brought it in to a trans shop to drain and fill and adjust the bands. Long story short, I brought it back again because the trans was getting hotter than it used to. I brought it back to the place, and he adjusted them again. Still getting warmer than it should. I brought it back (because he was going to fix it as it started acting up AFTER I brought it there) because he wanted to adjust the bands AGAIN just to make sure all was ok, and he found the cable spring was not attached.
SO....I have to wait to hook up the trailer to see if that was the cause of my symptoms listed above, but it sounds like it could have been.

The bad part of all this is I have driven about 5000 miles like this. Not good on the transmission for sure.

I am still on the lookout for a boost tester, but I am optimistic about the trans issue being the culprit.
Thoughts?
Thanks,

Thanks,
Update: the shop built and paid for a new high performance transmission.
