Question Too much boost?

After installing the Git-Kit, and BigHoss, my boost level has gone from 19PSI, to 33-34PSI.
When is the PSI number too much?
and is the 30-35 that i am getting okay?

Thanks
G

I also see about 36 psi. I have been told that a stock hx35 tubo will give you that much boost but it is not at it's top performance level. The air it makes is too hot going into the engine and will raise your egt's. I think I remember that they are only good to about 26-28 pounds. I'm sure someone will have the exact numbers. I have the Banks powerpack kit and 275 injectors

Till the 4.10 prevents me from goin over 80 that is!

Does this mean my 42 psi is bad i've seen at least 42 psi on 3 different trucks 1 96' w/ 16cm non wastegated housing 1 01' w/ 14 cm wastegated housing & now my 97' w/ stock 12 cm housing, all w/different boost guages also??? I'm looking to upgrade my turbo, but in the meantime should I defuel this thing a bit & possibly save some other parts????? thanks for any info

Unless I missed it, the original poster has an HY35W-9, not an HX35W-12 since he has a 2002 automatic. The HY35W-9 is way out of its efficiency map at 35 PSIG boost.

I've had my hy35 to 40psi a couple of times and EGT's were still at 900* pre turbo with just a comp in EZ mode. I've got it set for somewhere between 30-40 (boost gauge only reads to 30) and the highest EGT I've seen is 1150* with 275's and a comp in EZ mode.

The HX35 will run well at 35 psi all day long.....occasional WOT spikes past 35 psi are fine. However, as Rusty already mentioned, the HY35 with it's smaller 9cm housing is out of it's efficient range at 35 psi. It will boost higher but it will be overspeeding and cause an excessive egt rise.....30-32 psi is a more reasonable maximum efficient boost limit for the HY, though I'll bet the compressor map will suggest it may even be slightly lower.

This thread is interesting....
I just switched to CTD from Chevy 6.5 where the boost max is 10lbs......standard 7lbs

You can go up to 15lbs with a Turbomaster, but after 20 seconds ECM will throw a code and cut it down to limp mode, 40lbs it's completely out of the 6.5 world....

But it wasn't a bad motor though....
