Bilstein 5100's seems to be the shock of choice. You can find them for about $60 each. They work miracles for the ride.
Do a search on tires, lots of reading.
For some off-road, BFG AT KO are popular, wear well. the new Goodyear Silent Armour have worked well for me. Of course, Michelin, for stictly highway, but some like their AT.
