Tips on swapping power steering pumps
Tips on swapping power steering pumps
My pump is groaning now while trying to turn with the brakes applied so it's time to change it out. Any of yall got any tips on how to do it and make life easy? I've been told to undue the vaccum pump and take it off. Anything else?
This is what I wrote in post #5

I have since sprung a engine oil leak, I noticed that someone else had coated the nose of the pump with RTV, just where it slides into the V-pump, I only put a skim of RTV ...now it leaks, go fiqure. Its Sunday and I will not be able to get parts till tomorrow, hopefully someone carries the seals. It never leaked prior to pump replacement and I was careful during the instal, I'm guessing the previous person coated the "nose"(not the shaft) so that if the seal leaked the oil would be trapped between the P-pump and the V-pump, or it leaked and that was his/her cure.
No matter as this truck is a work truck ( In town courier) and I'll tear it apart....again.
