Time to pull the 24v

Its been comming for 3 years now. the rotted oil pan finally gave way. the other day . leaves a foot circle of oil when parked. got to love these trucks have to pull the engine for a $90 oil pan. I am doing all 6 injection lines while it is out. they dont even look like steel they are all salted and leaky. they have to stop salting the roads in the north east. wish me luck. next weekend. put a trans in 4 years ago. so it should up bolt fairly well.

Kind of sucks that you have to pull the motor for the pan, but lots of luck to you.

rusted out oil pan..... you'd think that with all of the oil these things seem to ooze that they would be well preserved. Maybe route the tube from the breather so that it will oil the pan......

From all I've read, to pull the engine you have to lift the cab, or some other crap, cant remember what it was, but if your only swapping a pan why not just pull the front axel out, its gotta be easier and faster than trying to pull the engine out, heck I bet if you unhooked the shocks the axel would drop enough to pull the pan out

...good luck

Ahhhh jeez, pull the fan shroud, valve cover, release the front mounts, lift the engine about four inches, the pan will slide out. New pan is less than $100.

To pull the engine you have to pull the pan first. Pull the ac compressor and all the stuff in front of the engine except the bumper. You won't get it lined back up on the trans with the ac compressor in place.

I have pulled one before one of my friends oil pan was rotted also. as well as 4 other peole i know. the salt kills the things up here. Last summer i did 4 oil pans in power strokes. you can pull them without pulling the cab its tricky but can be done. you have to turn the engine side ways in the engine compartment then pull it forward. i have to do all 6 injection lines while its out also they leak and are rotted due to salt as well. it will be a fun weekend.

no i wouldnt pull it just to do injector lines. but the block is all flaking rot i figured i would pull it and strip it and paint it. but i really dont have the time. i have to many customer cars to fix. so i am going to try your way of jacking it up four inches it will be alot easier. I have to have it ready to go to pull the mini excavator to vermont on monday. thanks for the input every one.

oil pan is in. have to pull the radiator tommoro to power wash all the oil out of it. over heats sometimes towing. the thing is packed halfway down with oil. thanks hauling in dixie for the info on the pan swap. way easier than pulling the engine. i will do the lines another weekend. they are not leaking. just really rotted. thanks

Ok Jon I also have something to say about the overheating. If it has the original thermostat in it, or regardless, change it out for an OEM, not aftermarket, 180 degree thermostat. Get the real Cummins part. It will make a big difference on the pulling heat up.

You should've rhino lined the outside of that oil pan before you put it in. How about stainless injector lines? anyone make them?
