Throttle valve cable adjustment

Reading through the FSM on throttle valve cable adjustment, the manual only refers to the procedure for gas engines. I'm asuming that the prodcedure is the same for the diesel engine only substituting "APPS" where the manual says "throttle body". Is that correct?

Back story on why I'm need to check the adjustment: I just got back from a 600 mile trip a couple days ago. Towed my trailer down to the river for an extended weekend of camping, floating and boating on the river. When I got down there, I got the trans kind of hot (about 240° to 250°) maneuvering my trailer into the spot we picked out on the gravel bar. When I got back home and unhitched the trailer, I noticed that the underside of the truck was slathered with a trans fluid. I'm guessing the trans puked some of its oil out the vent when it got hot.

The next day when I headed out for work, I noticed that the trans was not shifting correctly. All the shifts, 1-2, 2-3, 3-4 are delayed and when they do shift, they hit a lot harder than normal. I looked through the diagnostic charts in the trans section of the FSM and see that it could be a number of things. Since the trans was due for a service, I pulled the pan tonight after work to change the fluid/filter, check band adjustment, etc.

I didn't find anything out of the oridianary inside the trans.... fluid still looked and smelled good, filter was not clogged, just a very tiny bit of stuff stuck to the drain plug magnet, bands were not out of adjustment... nothing that would lead me to believe there is an internal failure. After servicing the trans I took a test drive and it's still has delayed shifts.

In the diagnostic charts there are two conditions that describe what my trans is doing: 1) SHIFTS DELAYED OR ERRATIC (SHIFTS ALSO HARSH AT TIMES) and 2) DELAYED 3-4 UPSHIFT (SLOW TO ENGAGE). One possible cause that is common to both of those conditions is "throttle valve cable out of adjustment", so that is next on my list of things to check but I ran out of time and daylight to check it tonight.

I'm hoping that's the problem and it not one of the more serious possible causes. Other than the delayed shifting, the trans appears to function fine.
