there she goes

well after a little buckin and snortin i got her 175 miles home and threw a p0216 and a p0230 which seems to mean my vp died. ive only got 40,000 on it and wondered about advice when i take her in. i know its warrenty but just want any advice or experience that will help me with the tight fisted local dealer. does that code mean its bad for sure or that theres just a problem? ive been going to get gauges but havent gotten around to it since ive got 60000 miles to "play" with but ill get em soon. thanks in advance for any help

IT sure SOUNDS like a VP, whether it is or not.

This should be an easy warranty repair.

You now have documentation that the lift pump was bad an replaced.

Now, down the road if you lose your VP44, you can say "well, you replaced the lift pump xx months ago, why didn't you just replace the VP then, especially since it was throwing codes?"

Well....

Keep your eye on your VP44. I hate to say it but from personal experience, it's gone. P0216 says fuel injection timing failure but it means the electronics in the pump is shot or going soon. Hate to say it but if it's under warranty, get it done as soon as possible.

Mamm, is right! When I lost mine it took the VP with it. They say without the lift pump it runs the VP dry burning it up essentially. When they replace your VP it will be with a remanufactured pump so Run the H**l out of it when you first get it back. When I got mine back I installed my PM2 on it and took off up the enterance ramp at WOT and didn't make it to the top. They replaced it and this one has been good. Knock on wood!!!!!!

Most 216'd VP's I've seen, and have been "cured" with a new LP, have failed within then next 14 days...

Keep your eyes peeled for hard start when hot, dead pedal, blue smoke (out exhaust) and miss-firing.

My VP went for another 50K after the LP replacemnt. Not covered, cost me a small fortune to replace the VP. Next time I will try to do it myself.
