If the LP is completely silent, it is smoked......and if it is abnormally loud and makes growling sounds and the pitch is inconsistent, it is probably just about cooked, if not completely. Still, there just really isn't a suitable substitute for a FP gauge.

Taz,

Did, you get your motor up and running yet?

Get a gauge, much cheaper than replacing a IP.

If you wanna go cheapo while savin' up for the nice guage pak, go to a heating & cooling supply house and get a rubber 8ft. freon 12 fill line...seems like they're less than $20. They have guages too so get a 0-30 psi one to fit the line then screw the other end onto your Schrader Valve under the black cap on your injector pump. I used a fuel pressure test kit, grease gun line extensions and a good 0-30 psi guage from a friend.
I didn't think about the freon line until I visited a heat/cool supply house then asked about the line for future reference.

Most folks agree on 12-15psi idle and 8-10 psi at Wide Open Throttle (WOT).

These guys got that low pressure LED set to 5 pounds for $58 American. You can call him and he's a good guy to answer everything. He also has great prices on new lift pumps of all brands.
