Testing Procedure

What is the reccomended procedure for determining if a tie rod is bad on an 02 2500 diesel. Does the front end need to be off the ground? While I am at it what is the procedure for ball joints.

Thanks in advance!

grab the steering linkage with your hands and rotate it, if it moves easily and/or theres lots of play in the joints, you can either replace or lukes link it.
