TC locl up problem is back

I thought I had this problem solved and it was gone for about three months. But it is back. At TC lock up the TC will lock and unlock several times. It usually goes away at 50mph. I have removed the ground connector and soldered the wire together. There is a new twist though. At a coast around 25-30 MPH the TC seems to be locking and unlocking. The problem also occurs when hitting rough spots on the road. This makes me think I have a short some where. Any new suggestions would be great. Thanks in advance for the help.

By "coast", are you referring to when your foot is completely off the throttle? If so, that's a strange one, because it should unlock as soon as it sees closed throttle.

Regarding the unlocking over bumps- it's possible for the brake lamp switch to be out of adjustment and cause this. Try holding the brake pedal firmly up with your left foot while driving over bumps, and see if the problem goes away.

TC lock up

Yes by coast I mean completely off the throttle. I also pulled codes and none came up. How do you adjust the brake lamp switch? I will try holding the brake pedal up tomorrow. Thanks

i have the exact same problem with my truck i did all the grounds and the 2 gray connectors and it went away for a few days but now it is back your symptoms are exactly the same as mine especially with the going over the rough rodes i am going to try wrapping foil around the wires coming off the alternator and see what that dose and then try a filter if that doesnt work MY QUESTION TO YOU IS DO YOU THINK IT IS HURTING THE TRANSMISSION BY THE WAY IT IS ACTING?

Try cleaning the grounds to the fenderwell passenger side. Take the screws off and scrape the paint off on the fender. Then clean the grounds to and behind the ECM. (Firewall, passenger side, remove the aircleaner to get to it.) Run a NEW ground wire from the ECM to the negative battery post. Solder connections.

Be patient guys, take a deep breath, it takes a little time and work. Good news is the fix is cheap.

Yes, it is not good for your TC in the long run, but don't worry about it right now. It's more annoying than anything.

The cleaned battery terminals was your clue. The filter costs $39.

It's just that simple. Clean the screws that hold it to the firewall, run another ground, clean the under side of the screw heads, and the hole going into the firewall. Scotchbrite pads work great. Wire wheel on a die grinder does too.

Not to worry about the ECM, I've had mine off twice.

On the older models, to adjust the switch, simply give it about an eighth of a turn CCW to remove the switch, then you can pull out the plunger a few clicks. Re-install the switch by engaging it into the square hole, then give it a twist to lock it in. Hold the brake pedal away to make it easier.

Sometime around 2000 model year they changed the switch. If you have the new one, it'll say "replace after removal" or some such thing. I don't believe you can adjust this type.

Problem solved

Well I took it down to my tranny shop to have the fluid cahnged and they went through the grounds and either soldered them or cleaned them all and it is bakc to it's *** hawling self again. My soldering skills aren't what they could be. They did tell me that I have some corrosion inside the ground wires. They also removed them and replaced them with new wires. All this for $108.00. Not bad. Thanks again for all the help.

CLean all the grounds, screws, connections, on the passenger side of the truck. There is a ground coming from the alternator to the battery, and from the battery to the firewall. Remove the gray connectors and butt splice & solder the wires togeather.
