I DID THE SWAP IN A 97 2500 EXT CAB 4X4. IT WAS PRETTY EASY OVERALL, BUT THERE WAS A COUPLE OF TRICKY PARTS. THE FIRST ONE IS THE 241LD TRANSFER CASE HAS THE WRONG INPUT SHAFT RECIEVER FOR THE 4500 WHICH HAS MORE SPLINES. THE SECOND ON IS NOT REALLY HARD BUT THE DRIVE SHAFTS NEED CHANGED 1 1/2 INCHES IN LENGHT. THE THIRD IS CUTTING THE WHOLE IN THE FLOOR FIR THE SHIFTER. oN THE 97, THE 4X4 LEVER BOLTS THE THE TRANNY SO WE HAD TO BUY A DIFFERNT LEVER FOR THE SWAP. IT COULD BE MADE TO FIT THOUGH WITH A LITTLE WORK. OTHER THAN THAT IT IS NOT BAD. THERE ARE ALOT OF OTHER DETAILS I COULD TELL YOU BUT THIS IS THE HARDEST PARTS OF THE JOB. ____________________ TIM

illinoisram, did you have to replace the whole transfer case, or could you just replace that shaft for one with 29 spline count?

I've thought about doing this with my 99, but I was concearned the computer would have an issue with not having some of it's inputs from the auto trans being there.

Sorry it took me so long to get back here. I don't know if your still looking for a answer, but just in case you are, here it is.

Southernpride, no you do not have to replace the whole transfer case just the input hub. The tranny shop acually did it for me. They had a used one the was good. You could probably do it yourself.

Charliez, there is no problems with the electrical. The only thing i had to ask for help on was the proper way to wire up the cruise control and neutral safety switch. Which thanks th DTR, i felt like a once they told me how to do that.. Anyway, well worth it to do the swap. TIM
