Surging/dead pedal...
I was talking to my wifes' uncle today about his 2001 3500 dually. He said that at 61-62 MPH (I would assume about 1800 rpm) he gets some surging, especially unloaded and going downhill. He said it's still there the rest of the time, just not as noticeable. When he is going faster or slower it isn't there.
He also said that when he has come off of cruise a few times he has had a "dead pedal". I have seen that a bunch of times on here for the start of the VP44 going, but I don't remember seeing anything about cruise associated with it.
I checked for codes using the key on/off method and it didn't have anything stored. I got P Done on both the PCU and ECU. He did say though that if he starts it without waiting for the complete cycle after the key is in run (all the lights are out) he will get a CEL.
I sent him the procedures for doing an APPS reset, but wonder if anyone else might have some insight on this. This is the first time I've even looked under the hood of a 24 valve, so let me know if there is anything I might be missing.
One last thing. I asked him if he had the lift pump in tank or not. He said he thought it was in tank. When did that become the standard way of doing it?
His pickup has a 5 speed and about 230k on it. Stock as far as I know. I appreciate any help for an undervalved, properly pumped guy.
