Sudden Drone

Ok...I'm new here so Hi All :P

Well I straight piped from the muffler back about 6 months ago...and I put on an Edge EZ about 2 months ago...

Been soundin fine up until 3 or 4 days ago...I now have a sudden drone that can be heard in the cab at idle and running...when I open the hood it is definatly coming from the exhaust side and does not appear to be related to my air box, air filter, etc...

So...I got to thinkin that maybe my RESONATOR is plugged or has deteriorated from all the Boost my Lead Foot has put through the system lately....I have 75,000 miles on the truck...

Anybody know what a messed up resonator sounds like ?

Re:Sudden Drone

Welcome to DTR.

If your laws allow then take your RES. off and leave your muffler but take it all the way to the back. OR take everything off and put 4" straight pipe to the back and put a tip on it. [undecided]

SD: Thanks for you thoughts...

I probably was not clear...but I removed the muffler and had 3" pipe put in from the resonator back....

Do you think a faulty resonator could produce the sound I'm hearing ?

Re:Sudden Drone

Oh ok sorry I got distracted. :
What the RES does is stop the drone. It may be faulty RES but what I would do is buy 4" straigh pipe from turbo back and run it to the back axle or run it to the bumper and put a tip on it. But if you dont like it loud then put a new RES on.

Re:Sudden Drone

I doubt that your resonator is plugged. It's straight through, kinda like a glasspack muffler. If you really think that's what it is, take the exhaust off right after the res, and shine a light in there, shouldn't be anything in there. When you straight piped it, did you weld it or use clamps? I had a truck that the factory clamp got loose on and it made a droning sound. I'd check all the pipe hangers too.

Re:Sudden Drone

I had a 4 inch turbo to tip(with muffler) system installed just after I got the truck. I never got the drone until about a month ago. On my truck, it happens at exactly 2100 rpm and ends at 2200 rpm in 6th gear only. Ended up being a loose clamp behind the muffler. Drone is gone now.

Re:Sudden Drone

If you are thinking of getting a 4" system I highly reccomend the summit 4" sys they also just came out with a stainless sys but I have the aluminized one, & it sounds awesome I also bought the stainless 5" tip from them & that made it sound even better & looks sweet!

DRecu

I'll try to get some pics up!
