Starter woes
I know some time ago there was a thread about starter problems and a fix.
My starter is acting up intermittently some times I have to hit it two times to get it to engage and some times it keeps rolling after the engine fires. Thanks ramlovingvettryingtokeepitrunning |
Sounds like the starter contacts. You can get a set here: http://www.fostertruck.com/dodge/default.htm

Thanks Tom :)

Check your local starter shops. I got my contacts for $5 on a Saturday morning from a small starter shop in my town. They were even the oversized contacts...couldn't believe it. Easy fix for a big problem.

Should change the plunger while you're in there.
|
one was toast the other was fine.
Is this normal? https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...765Toasted.JPG |
I've not torn apart one of these starters yet, are the clips on a slider with a spring backing? If so, one may have been sticking in position or near position.
|
No the clips are bolted with lugs to the housing.
And removing the Starter is a bit of a bear.[eyecrazy] |

I usually stick the plunger in a lathe and true it up a bit with a small file.
|
I replaced the whole thing plunger and all with the heavy duty Big difference in construction and the company was very quick to send the parts. http://www.fostertruck.com/dodge/default.htm I will buy from them again:)

One thing cool about ordering from Larry B is you are supporting teenage junior businesswomen. Larry's operation is run by his high school daughters.

Well all the better then..
Youth and Trucks a winning combo:) |
RLV you're a life saver! Thanx for that link, I'm gonna pick up a used starter from a junkyard and rebuild it and keep it for a spare..[laugh]

Here's a great new step by step on starter rebuild
