starter

Have to change the starter on my 2002. Its the original. Can someone tell me what size wrench I need, so i don't have to make 10 trips back to the tool box? I assume it's held on with 3 bolts.

Thanks.

Why are you changing it? Is it clicking and won't start? It could be as simple as changing out contacts/plunger

10 MM, and MUST be a 12 point.

And yea, have it rebuilt by a reputable place or get one from Foster Truck. Rebuilds from the chain stores don't last.

Make it painful only once if you have to.

Otherwise you might be laying in the snow in January changing that Auto Zone reman.....

Rebuild it yourself, get a kit off of ebay and you're set.

Thanks guys. Has new batteries and connections are all clean. It clicks when I turn the key. I understand about the parts store starters. Replaced one on my other truck a few years ago, and it took a dump within a week. Ended up putting a nippendenso on it. Big difference.

I think I will have this one rebuilt.

A set of contacts off Ebay, a 10mm wrench, 3 bolts and and not even an hour of your time and the clicky click goes away.

Just did it, easy job.

Got the rebuilt starter in. Man what a difference.

Only one problem, I poked a hole(not sure how)in the tranny oil line, it's about the size of a pencil lead. Two running side by side and its the one that connects into the back of the tranny to the left of the pan. I jb welded it for now.

What should I expect to pay for a new line if I do it myself? And how do the ends come apart where there clamped? Just squeeze them?

Thanks
