i was wondering...would there be any advantage or cause any problems to put an inline pusher pump in near the tank and leave the stock pump on the truck? in theory i guess it would just create less work for the oem pump. what are your thoughts? would this work at all?

 

yes it would work just fine. Others have done it on here.

Just be aware that the resulting fuel pressure will be more than the sum of the two individual output pressures. You can find more details in a previous thread of mine titled "Fuel pressure arithmetics".
