Sputtering on acceleration

Hoping someone can provide some input with this problem... Truck had IP replaced and in-tank fuel pump added just before warrantee ran out. about 12K later, the IP started to take a dump again. Or at least it seemed like the same symptoms as before when the first one went. Only this time, it didn't throw the 216 code (I think thats the one?).

When you're trying to accelerate, the truck just lags, like you're not giving it throttle. Then, as the revs increase, it will start to kick in, but sort of sputter and not catch and pull cleanly. Usually, it will clear out above 2000 rpm and pull normally, but not always. Took it back to the dealer, but the IP only had a 12K warrantee on it, plus, it was running fine the day I took it back.

I've tried resetting the APPS. I always keep the tank at leat 1/4 full. Its got a good fuel filter and good fuel from a high turnover station. The only code it was giving me was for the grid heater relays, but I checked both relays and the heaters and all is in order. Tried pulling apart the harness connectors and reseating, etc.

Now, today, I was coasting down from the mountains, going downhill for several miles. The MIL comes on and I pull over and check evrything. All gauges look fine. I pulled the codes from the odo and got the companion code and relay code again (like usual). But it also threw 0234 and 0237. I think one is turbo waste gate, but not sure.

Anyone know what these are or have any ideas here. I'm thinking IP, but maybe not?

Thanks

po237 is map sensor voltage too low, po234 is turbo over boost, clear the codes and maybe it will run better.... do you have a boost fooler? maybe your waste gate is stuck closed .

After I checked the codes, the MIL went off. I can do the battery disconect thing again. But I have tried it before with no change in how it runs.

Why would I get a turbo overboost code after coasting downhill for many miles, with little or no throttle?

i was having the p0234 also.it was suggested to me by riley at edge that the map sensor was bad, or the connector was dirty. so i cleaned it and put some dielectric grease in the connector...... we will see

Almost always a bad MAP. Those things go bad on a pretty regular basis.

Could the MAP be causing the poor performance, or just the code? Its been running like this for quite a while, without triggering the code...

Thanks for the responses.

Yep, could and does casue both. I have seen MAPs that did not throw a code make 50-70Hp less on the dyno than after swapping with a known good part.

OK, is there a way to confirm the MAP is bad, or should I just buy a new one and try it? Is the factory the only source for the unit? Perhaps I'll try to clean the connector first, but I'm doubtful that it will help...

Thanks

With an ohmeter you can tell if the connection is open or closed.

Also, disconnect you performance box, clear the close and if it returns, bad MAP.

I get my MAP sensors from Cummins. I have a few.

Better yet, where is the map sensor located on a 2002 dodge cummins?

What are the specs supposed to be on them?

If your fuel filter is dirty, you can get the same symptoms, it happened to me, & after I put in a new fuel filter it was fixed. I'd try that first.

Good responses, thanks. Fuel filter is nearly new, so thats not the problem. Guess its time to buy a FSM.
