Got my master/slave unit and have a question before I install. It has a white plastic piece that seems to hold the slave plunger from extending before it is installed. My question is does this stay in place after install or do you remove just before install or do you install and then cut the plastic leaving the tip in place after install. I imagine it will become all clear once I get started but wanted to ask before starting.

 

I just installed mine last week....you cut the straps off the plastic tip leaving the tip in place. Make sure you pump the slave in/out a few times before installing it to get all air purged from the system. Read the red tag attached to the unit....you may need to use your stock rubber seal on the master cylinder to tighten the master cylinder to the firewall. Good Luck

 

When I changed my master/slave with a stock unit, it also came with two plastic straps holding the slave compressed. I had read this is done to allow a quick change and to leave the straps uncut. The first time the clutch pedal is pushed the straps snap and all is good.

 

The SB kits are plastic, but look alot heavier duty than the stocker.

 

Thanks all. Uh, how do you purge the air by pumping if it is a sealed unit?

 

the two peices just slide together with a little force and there is not purging to be done

 

Well, the one I have came in one piece.

 

I recieved mine in one piece too.....you should still pump the slave in/out to be sure all air is out. Just install the master cylinder & reservoir.....then when you are ready to slide the slave into the bellhousing....pump it. If air is in the system.....it will be forced out the hole in the reservoir lid. This is what I was told to do to bleed the system.....works great.

Don't mean to hi-jack this thread ,but.......... Do I need a SB master/slave or is it merely a replacement for the stock unit?

When I bought my SBC Con ofe they didn't mention anything about it, but that was 4 years ago.

JLent, just to be sure on this, I will have the slave just hanging there while the master and reserve are bolted in and ready to go. Pumping won't extend the slave plunger and or break the white plastic ties? Seems like that would be the case and I get the impression the ties are on there to keep all in place till firmly installed.

As I said before, my concerns will most likely clear up once I get to work on this.

 

only needed when running a double disk. the stock unit will be enough for a single disk

 

I was told to do this & yes you are understanding me correctly, but I cut the ties off, pumped it & held it shut while threading in the bolts. I just installed it the way that I was told by a friend who has done a few of these installs. I never heard of installing them with ties in place & letting them just break off with pedal pressure.....not saying it is the wrong way, but just never heard of that.
