I'm seriously considering an SB Clutch for my truck... has anyone had any trouble with them on the NV5600 trucks? I don;t wanna drop a load like this and have more troubles a couple months later
I have a SBC with my NV5600 and it works flawlessly. I also have upgraded hydraulics. I advise the upgraded hydraulics with any truck that is running a higher plate load or has a truck with considerable miles on it.

The nice thing about the SBC hydraulics, it's adjustable!!! You can adjust the rod to wherever you like.

I agree with the upgraded on the hyd's, and their making a new one that is going to be easyer on the tranny's sycros

Just my two cents,--I also went with a new flywheel and the oversized pilot bearing from Southbend. It eliminates the small needle bearing and replaces it with a sealed roller bearing that is much bigger and heavier. The pilot failed on the tranny I have and the syncros didn't last long after that. I wanted a pilot bearing setup that will at least last as long as the new clutch. The stock clutch outlasted that puny pilot bearing! You can buy the oversized bearing yourself if you can mill the hole oversized, or get it done without too much expense. Southbend offers a package deal which isn't bad considering the cost of having your old flywheel milled oversized ang then ground for the new clutch plus the added down time for these procedures.

I sure am glad to hear that,I was afraid that maybe it was just a slightly better version of the stocker!

I was also planning on getting a Southbend CON-FE.. are these problems very common or more of a rarity?

Here is a question, does it do this with the engine off and the clutch in nutral?? If it does it is in the trans and there is not a ton of stuff you can do other than a rebuild. Mine was getting bad and I changed the fluid in the trans and it was almost like new!!

I would change the fluid first if it is the trans

Truck shifts fine with the engine off, just has trouble when trying to change em' with the engine running, when I try to pull it in gear I can feel the truck try to move...something is dragging, changing the Master/slave to the SB unit today..
I can get it in gear if I pull it in 6th,then shift FAST to reverse,or 5th then to 2nd...1st is impossibe unless the truck is rolling forward.
when in gear clutch in it sometimes it kinda..well surges gently?...maybe that the way to say it,I sure hope it aint that darn pilot bearing

I doubt it is a clutch issue. It most likely is in the hydraulic release or install. I have one with zero problems.

I have been fighting this same problem for over a month now. I burnt the old clutch and bought a new CON FE only to have a multitude of problems. I have replaced the clutch two times now and all of the hydralics. I still have a slight drag when going into gear. The truck still wants to roll slightly too. What kind of fluid upgrades do you reccomend and who carries them?

I had the same issues. Replaced the hyd with Napa reman's and had the same amount of travel (5/8"). I mod'ed my rods to try and make better use of the travel with no change. This is a little irritating because nowhere does SB say the stock hyd will not travel enough. They do sell theirs and say it is better, but nothing gives an indication that stock will not work.

I called Peter left and left voice mail. After three days and replacing the hyd I called again and finally talked to him. He is helpful if you can talk to him. I tried his suggestion with no improvment. I built up a new hyd system and now have over 1.25" travel. Actually if I push enough I can push the fork into the pressure plate. This has made a huge improvment but there is still a little issue getting into 1st and 2nd. Peter feels it may be an issue with the trans bearing of the input shaft. With as much travel as I have I assume the disk is not moving away from the flywheel for some reason, but it is drivable now and I'm hoping it will loosen up with some miles. I've got about 3K now.

Update

Well I thought my problems were through, but after I drove the truck a few miles the problem came back...I got to looking and there are peices of the center springs in the bottom of the inspection cover...glad I bought that 800 dollar CONFE! (was trying to avoid this)
Anyone else have this happen with a 300hp truck?

Too bad Peter can't get the proper bearing from Dan @ Quad 4 X 4.

I've got mine coming out of the shop (hopefully today). Dans pilot bearing idea is miles ahead of what SB offers. The Quad 4 X 4 setup is waaaaaay better and it's huge compaired to the SB mod . BTW, I've tried SBs upgrade bearing.

IMO most of the NV600 problems CAN be stopped with a proper input bearing. Now if NV/Chrysler would offer some cryoe'd hard parts, they would have a much tougher setup.

wow, sounds like replacing my clutch is going to be more involved than i thought it was going to be. sounds like its going to be a trial and error thing. my nv5600 still has the stock clutch but its letting loose in 5x5 @ 15 psi and getting real hard to shift.
