sounds like spark knock!!!

so last week my truck started making a pinging noise like a gasser with spark knock. it's never made this noise before and it worries me. mostly does it at mid-throttle range. goes away if i back off the throttle or if i accelerate it goes away once it spools up good. checked the turbo and have a little side to side play, no end play and spins freely. seems the same as my other turbo(i have a 2000 cummins parts truck) seems the worst at that null point just before it starts pulling. doesnt do it at idle so it's hard to pinpoint where it's coming from. definetly sounds like engine, most likely upper end. doesnt have the deep sound of lower end noise. would the injectors do this? if so how can i check them. the noise is kinda tinny sounding, was hoping the turbo was loose as i have another, but don't think so. hope someone has some ideas, i don't want to just start replacing things. thanx

so i see a lot of views but no response?? surely someone out there has an idea to toss out. any suggestions or similar experiences would be appreciated. this isn't a loud noise and if it was there when i got the truck i wouldn't worry about it, but something made it start and i'm the kinda guy that needs to figure out why.

I can tell you I had that type of noise on a 6.2 Chevy. It sounded just like a rod knock, so much so that even mimicked it when I loosened the line to that injector the noise went away. Dropped the pan and the bearings were fine. Come to find out that the injector line had a little bend in it and that changed the timing on that cylinder. Are all of your line clamps in place and tight?
