snapping in driveline

'98 3500, drw, 4X4 sharp loud snapping noise when in 4wd, seems like coming from front drive axle, but maybe from transfer case? turns hard when in 4wd. Any ideas would be appreciated. 24 valve ,5 speed standard trans.

Check the condition of the double Cardan U-joint on the front propeller shaft coming off the T-case. Mine made a lot of noise when it was bad. My truck always turns hard in 4X4, especially if on a dry, hard surface. Feels as if the front tires are hopping, which seems to be normal operation with any 4X4 I've owned.

Thanks , was thinking about that thing. also found transmission mount is NG.
I was afraid that the chain in the transfer case was giving trouble.

It could be the TC chain, I swapped my tc out because of that. Just need to rebuild it for a spare.

Check your front axle Joints.... I've had them get STIFF from lack of use and actually bind up to where steering truck was affected. Nate
