Question Smoke question

How much smoke should a stock 24V be blowing out the pipe? I mean to say diesel smoke not oil. I had to make a fast manuever yesterday which required my foot on the floor, one of the rare times I push it that far. I watched my rearview and notice a decent load of smoke boiling behind me. This was in the daytime. It was not the real thick black smoke that the modded guys blow out but more of a real dark gray.

Is this normal or should I start checking for boost leaks?

A stock 24 valve shouldn't smoke very much, Unless lugged really bad but even then not alot. I would suspect a boost leak possibly run a code check that should narrow down any problems if any, myabe you just got a hot truck

If you don't get on it that often and really heat things up, you might have just burnt off some of the carbon build up.

i remember a trip i took in the summer of 2003. i was passing a friend of mine on the highway in 90* weather and he told me i had some smoke coming out the tail pipe. i never noticed it and this was before the mods listed in the sig. only time i noticed any sort of haze in the stock condition was a bad air filter and at night and putting the pedal to the floor.

I've seen a gray haze a couple times when I've had to floor it.

The few times I had time to notice it in the rearview anyway,
usually in those conditions, my eyes are dead ahead.

My truck did not haze at all when I first got it. Then after it started to break in, around 20-25k it started to haze. This was only under hard exceleration. Then when I put on the 4" exhaust and BHAF it quit totaly. I kinda miss it.

Yeah, it was a hard accelerate. I mean foot to the floor. I never had it to the floor ever. I have had it close but not all the way. I have noticed haze in the headlights behind me at night sometimes but only during a quick accel.

Now that you mention it my BHAF does look pretty dirty, might be time to change it and buy an Outerwares slip cover. My mileage has gone down a bit (not according to the trip computer but by hand). Thanks pgiles.
