Smoke

I got the truck in my sig and its gettin cold here. I notice whing I start my truck it really puts out alot of black smoke when its idling cold, then when I put a load on it it smokes like crazy but as soon as it warms up its fine. Mabey a IAT sensor just wondering if anyone had a similar problem. Thanks,

Paul

Mine puffs a black shot of smoke at start up but then idles pretty clean, even when really cold out.

Try cleaning the IAT and MAP sensors. Have you had the Dragon Flow injectors in it over a winter yet?

Black smoke is from too much fuel.

Hows your vp44?

Sorry, just trying to help.

Colder air is denser so I think it would smoke less.

Still I'm thinking heavy on the fuel.

SIXSLUG is quite knowledgable and is trying to help you with your problem, the above post came off as a bit rude. Sometimes typing can not convey clearly the spirit in one's message so we all try to be a bit overly polite.

Ok sorry nothing was meant by it. Not looking to be rude but I do know a thing or two about vehicles I work on them every day. I was just curious if anybody had this problem and if there were any quick fixes.

how many miles you got on the truck?, what does your blow by tube look like when this is going on? do you smell anything strange with the engine oil, how long ago did you replace the fuel and air filter?
you said your VP is fine. but how do you know its fine? does it blow smoke just for start up and then gets leaner, or is it constant black smoke until you drive, or what. IMO if you have alot of black smoke and its constant until the truck is warm it to me would not be a sensor being dirty. pull your sensor completely and run it and see what it runs like. how cold is the weather around you? good luck
Justin.

It will give an initial puff and then just smoke for about 2 minutes then it will be fine. Air and fuel are new. Weather is like 20 deg f. Trucks got 120k and no strange smells.

what does your blow by tube look like on start up cold. I would say if it only last for a couple min, and clears up then its the weather. if your oil levels are good. and you know your getting enough air. and mechanical it sounds normal. you dealing with cold weather. I just rebuild my engine and with new rings and pistons. my color is darker for a couple min too. but its not a real dark more of a constant haze coming out on start up. then cleans up. ?? so you said you used a scanner? what to pull codes. and what scanner did you use to read psi. where was this reading taking at?

I have my snap-on scanner. I was reading the data. It must use the map sensor to determine boost. MAP Manifold Absolute Pressure.
