Since there are so many...

Differential threads going on.. ;D How often do you change the fluid? Yearly? After X amount of miles? Whenever you feel like it? I tow the majority of the summer and was wondering if I should just change it once a year or change it at the intervals listed in the manual. It was actually changed twice in roughly 6500 miles, once because they say to put a synthetic in if towing, then I bought a Mag-Hytec cover. So should I wait until the 30K mark like the manual says? Or change it in the springtime in time for towing season? Thanks!! ;D

EDIT: What about front diffs? I swapped that out to a Mag-Hytec cover as well.. how often do you change that out?

Oh sure, another thread I have to keep an eye on. Since I'm hoping that the Easter Bunny brings me a Mag-Hytec cover or two, perhaps I needn't worry about the mileage interval for awhile (the way I pile on the mileage, it'll be 2005 ). At least now I know that I need to change it to synthetic, just have to figure out the quantities and brands. Geeze, life was so much simpler before discovering you guys. Blissful ignorance.

Say Tony, I just noticed in your posting about Differential covers that you have all Mag-Hytec pans and covers. Therefore, you should be able to tell this old phart the capacities. See, that way I can copy it into my &quot;word&quot; notebook and file it under folder &quot;Ram info&quot;. What do you say? <br><br>~Dave

I bought my truck used about a year ago with 60K on it. It's been a plow truck since new, so I thought I'd change out all driveline fluids for peace of mind. When I took the differential covers off, they still had the factory seal on them, and hadn't been changed before. <br><br>The front differential fluid was visably the cleanest, the transfer case fluid was actually the worst looking. Everything now has synthetic fluid, and future changes will probably be whenever I feel like it. The stuff I'm using says drain intervals can be extended up to 5X as recommended, and not changed at all if used light duty. I'm just hoping to get the truck to last as long as the engine.

When I got the tranny DTT'ed, Scott put 20 quarts of tranny fluid in the DD Tranny Pan. I think it varies with vehicle anyway, depends on how much of the old you get out, etc...

My truck is close to 5 years old with over 75k on it and I've changed to diff fluid once. <br><br>The 5spd is still running on the original fluid. :-[<br><br>I'm suposed to go down th BMD and Tom is going to let me use his lift for the tranny fluid change. 8) (what a nice guy) <br><br>DB

Since I use my truck for serious hauling including a lot of weight. I change the differ about every 20k and the tranny about every40 to 50 k. The service manager at my dealer said that under sever conditions youshould change it a lot more then the owners manual says to. If you tow a lot the tranny will take a lot of heat and then it seems harder to shift and sounds different then it does with the cleaner fluid. i drive abou 4k to 6k per month.
