Question silencer ring?

I keep reading stuff about a silencer ring on these cummins pickups, is there actually something else I can take off to make it louder? If so where is it and what is involved in removing it?

Dump the stock airbox and go with a BHAF or better. It will make it louder.

Cut the hole for the Scotty II Air Intake! Be all set to go when you buy one, and lets a lot of turbo noise into cab....if that's what you really want!

If youve got the silencer ring removed already you can get a little more turbo whistle by removing the tube on the side of your airbox that goes into your fender well. takes 2 minutes to do and gets more air into the box. Its not clear wether or not you have removed your silencer ring... if not .. DO IT NOW!

All that is gonna do is give your Cummins hot air coming off the engine. Sounds good but you are defeating the purpose of the intercooler. My truck came with an open air box and some kind of cone filter. It would probably be better if I had hood insulation to seal it more but I don't and I think I'm getting warm air too. I am looking into fitting it better cause that hole in the fendr is an ideal place to get fresh air.

Big Honkin' Air Filter.

Go to Members Photos and do a search for BHAF, you'll see the many flavors that qualify.

I chose the straight 4" DPP Exhuast, Scotty II w/hole cut, silencer ring gone. Yes it sounds ssswswwwweeeeeeeeet! Thinking about going to a 5" system, just for sound. Yes I am sick.

To remove your silencer ring, Take air intake off of the turbo, look in there and you will see a coned shape peace held in by a internal snap ring. Look with a flash light and take 2 number 2 screw drivers, pry one end down then peel it out with the other and TOSS IT IN THE GARBAGE! next hook up intake and go wor a ride with a smile! NOISE!

Yeah, I already have a straight pipe, (stock with muffler cut out) who has the best price on a 5", and also I am interested in getting an Edge EZ, my truck has 172,000 miles on it, is this a good idea or not, you know with this many miles and all, putin' that much more pressure on the rings may make it start using oil???? Also, where can I get the best price on pillar mounted guages? I need a fuel pressure guage and would like also to have EGT and Boost. I like what Auto Meter has to offer, (had a set on my old Powerstroke). Thanks for your help guys!

Heck at 172K you arnet very far past breakin so I would not worry about it. But after all of my reading I would go with the Edge Comp, just dont tap the fuel wire and it works as an EZ. Then later on when you have another itch you can tap the pump wire and hold on. This way you dont have to buy another box.

Thats what I plan on doing at least as money permits.

Try going to DPP for gauges...

I paid $309.00 for pillar, FP, Boost, pyro, can of grey paint. Dipricol white faced...
