It is a conical disc in front of the turbo housing that quiets the hiss/whistle from the turbo. All that has to be done is to pull out the snapring and the disc pops right out. No performance gains, just a little more noise. I pulled mine Yesterday, but all I notice is a lot of hissing. I do not hear more whistle like many people. I think that part of my hearing has been damaged too much.

Do a search for silencer+ring and spend many happy hours reading.

I pulled mine a while back and didn't notice much of a change in noise untill I pulled that little black piece out that connects the air box to the fender.

I can't imagine what my truck would sound like without this. I stilll have mine in, and i'm alway's lookng in the rearview mirror thinking the law is chasing my tail. Whats the point if there is no functionality involved? however I do like te sound of my straight pipe, but i don't find any satisfaction from this whining turbo noise.

The functionality is to let that turbo sing it's song.

I will probably put mine back in. I don't like the hiss from it, since I can't hear any whistle. Perhaps in the futeur I will put stacks or straight pipe and hear it out the other end instead.
