Should I buy 2001 2500 ???

Hi all, I haven't had a chance to get on the site in ages. It's great to be back on. Been way too busy!!

Anyway, I looked at a potential "new" truck tonight.

2001 2500 q/c slt 4x4 shortbox 5spd.

truck has 181,000 km. (113,000 miles)

I thought it was priced very reasonable.

Truck needs a bit of work, ie. ball joints etc, for safety, dealers taking care of that.
Truck just had injection pump replaced by Cummins (supposedly comes with Warranty)

If I'm going to go for this truck I have to move on it ASAP or I know it will be gone.

Anything in particular to watch for with this truck??

I am most familliar with 12V's.

Thanks for your help guys.

How much they asking for it. If its a pretty good price I'd move on it quite fast. Those trucks get grabbed up real fast around here. Too bad it wasnt a HO 6 speed but hey its still a diesel!!! GO FOR IT ;D

I would not be real hot on it ..its out of warentee and, if it has the crank sensor over the starter its the the biggest 10,000 dollar bet your goin to make.
Do you feel lucky . Cummins dose not feel lucky the wont give a inch or a buck on it if the oil cooler jets go awol on you.
T.M.O.- check my post if you do not belive me, start about 2 months ago

well its a long story , this is the condensed version, if not clear enough check my history or pm me.
the teeth on the crank counter (a 3 pc. unit) come loose -set up a hamonic noise/vibration, blows the little plastic piston coolers out of thir holes (cyl. 4,5,6,7) then there is no oil preasure to the mains and rods.
Not a good thind............

I have heard of one other truck that had an issue similar to yours with cooling jets failing.

WHich year is it that had the dreaded 53 block casting that cracked???

I am not the expert with that info ,ask mexstan. the 53 is cast in the left front of the eng. just above the oil pan in big not hard to see numbers. As far as I do know they start back with the 12 valvers and go thrue to at least 2000 yr. models. (they might go further then that). And yes its probly a good idea to stay away from!
