How would one go about dis-connecting the red seatbelt light on the dash, is there a fuse for it?> it stays on even when i use the belt..can't figure it out

 

All that you have to do is plug the middle seatbelt into the driver or the passengers seat belt plug and the little red light will go out. Then you don't have to mess aroung with any chasing wires or cutting of any sort. Atleast that works on my 2001 dodge diesel. Good luck

 

You can always take the dash bezel off and pull the bulb, but that will just stop the annoyance and not resolve the problem. There should be a connector down near where the seat belt end and the floorboard meet, I'd check that first maybe just loose or crudded up. Try closing the circuit with a jumper (or just a screwdriver) and see if that kills the light, that'll help isolate the problem if its the switch or if the problem lies elsewhere in the wiring. Not sure but I think the circuit is normally closed to kill the light, but could be wrong here.

I'm not sure but will the air bag still work if the seat belt is not fastened? I think some car's you have to have it for the bag to work

 

The air bag will deploy whether the belt is buckled or not. Some newer systems actually have a charge built into the belt tightener that "snugs" the belt pulling you back into the seat while the bag is being deployed. I have not seen this system on the Dodge Rams however.

I agree with Dakar about the wiring, check under the seat to make sure you didn't unplug or tear something off. The belt being buckled should close the circuit.

 

I've replaced the seat belt receiver for this on a few trucks. Nobody came back and said it didn't work.
