My truck has no muffler or convertor, it is straight pipe right from engine to tail pipe, wide open. Will this cause any harm to engine? My neigbors are telling me it is loud. Should I muffle it or leave it open. Which exhaust combination is the favorite?

 

won't hurt a thing---there's like 5 zillion exhaust setups out there--none probably any better than the other--just do a muffler search and see what comes up----chris

 

If you live any a high humidity environment it will cause your turbo seals to go out faster.. but thats a good excuse to upgrade.

Standard muffler/resonator setups usually do not allow alot of condensation or moisture to reach the engine.

If your neighbors are complaining, definetly put a muffler on it. Happy neighbors are helpful for many reasons, and although your truck probably sounds oooohhhh so sweet without an exhaust system, its best to keep the peace.

 

it wont hurt anything at all mines been that way since 1999 when i cut it off under the cab. and my truck didnt come with a resonator just a muffler and have not had any problem with the turbos at all

you might want to put a small muffler in line to keep your neighbors happy...you never know who their "FRIENDS"are.!

 

they'll get used to it. leave it be IMHO

 

manitoba, petaluma, north pole, its fine you will notice a egt drop and it sounds better, if you got more than 5 feet of pipe on there your fine.and if you had less than 5 feet on there your still fine. how about when peope run a stack and it starts to rain and they forget to cover their stack and water gets in the exhaust. and it causes condensation. talk to most guys out their with a straight pipe or stack, their seals have rarely gone out. if ever. but yes it is nice to be curtious to neighbors. and belgianmagic has the rite idea, but i wouldnt put anything on the exhaust but a polished TIP.

 

I ran my '99 fort several years with no muffler or resonator, had zero issues.

 

I think the AeroTurbine scavenges the exhaust better than a straight piece of pipe.

I think it's technically a muffler.....

 

i have two big straight thru muffs .sound is NOT an issue, performance is good! any body want to see pics, pm e-mail address.... posting pic's is too complicated

 

Somebody give me a name for a straight thru muffler they have and like. Not a real spendy one please. My stocker has rusted inside and rattles a lot. I saw a ad for a Cherry Bomb muffler, that takes me back a few decades, anybody running one of those.

My TruckEx/Nelson AP3891/8613 sounds very nice. My wife loves the quiet note, but deeper tone than my stock piece. It is 4" in and out, and has a crimped baffle cone in the one end -- short work with a fence post will open it up to true straight through performance. Cost me $60.00.

 

Never heard of the turbo seals going on due to moisture. Never had any problems with any of my trucks beings staright pipe. Havnt had any problems with the John deere tractors on the farm with 3 feet of pipe going straight up... we have had plenty of rain water in those turbos and never once had a problem. Just causes a nasty black mess when she fires...
