rolling start

This is probly a dumb question, but I'm gonna ask it anyway.
A buddy of mine claims that a rolling start (turn key on, roll, in gear, let out clutch) is bad on computer controlled trucks, esp. diesels.

Now I very rarely do this, but I have. I was just curious if anyone who knows more than me (not a very high bar) would offer an opinion.

thanks

Never heard that one before. Can't imagine that it would hurt anything.

Other than it being hard on your clutch, it is not going to hurt anything.

If it's got a lockout switch on the clutch pedal, I don't think you can. You know, the one that keep it from starting unless the clutch is pressed.

the lockout switch only keeps you from engaging the starter without pushing in the clutch

don't think it could hurt, but that reminds me, how many ricers out there have less torque in their motors than our starter does?

oh yeah, that thing, well um, it's kinda MIA

I replaced the master/slave assembly and I couldn't get the sensor to go back on right, sooo I just straight wired the sensor to a switch in the dash
(before you had to mash the clutch, push the button, and turn the key, now just push and turn) I'm gonna fix that soon though.

But yeah, thanks for the input, I really didn't think it would hurt anything other than the clutch, but now I have some backup

I'm told this sets error codes, plays havoc with the CPS I believe. That's purely anecdotal though...................

" BUMP START " is a better term for what is being discussed here than " ROLLING START ".

sorry, I didn't know the correct term, I always think of bumping as engaging the starter for just a second...

but I reckon I know now.

Thanks all for the input
