researching new truck

So I am getting ready to buy a used dodge. I have been looking at the 2000 to 2001 ram 2500 with the 5.9. But after doing a little research on this forum I am starting to get second thouhgts after reading all the problems with the vp44 pumps. My friend who owns a 12 valve wants me to get one of those.
I am just looking to have a daily driver and still have a pickup. I want the best fuel milage possible.
Any thoughts

From: North Carolina or Kentucky. Take your pick
Buy it and you'll love it. Get color and equipment you desire even if have to search for a while.

Theres nothing wrong with either. Look for a solid truck any year, check the frontend for play you can spend some money on the front ends of these trucks. The 12vs are great trucks but there all got age on them now so keep that in mind.

I have a 2001 and sold my 1999. The 99 I had no problems with but I had to replace my vp on the 2001 all in all I would not have any other truck.

I'd look for a 2002 myself, a little newer, maybe find one with less miles, disc brakes...
