I understand that it takes a min to get the fuel primed an going again, but it took about 15 mins to get it started again, once the new fliter was installed.
Did you fill the fuel filter housing with fresh fuel?
Did you bump the starter to prime the system and make the lift pump run?
Could you hear the lift pump run?
Do you have a fuel pressure guage?
Is it possible your lift pump is on its last legs?

What I find on the 01-02 it makes life a bit easier when you bump the key is to push in on the schrader valve test port fitting up at the pump. That will help purge the air from the canister and delvery line. I use an old horn button switch with spade terminals so I can "bump" the starter from under the hood. Sometimes you will have to perform the procedure twice to purge all the air.
