What are they charging you for doing the RM? putting the old ripped gasket back on?
Sounds sketchy to me.
Oil pan is not in contact with the rear main on the cummins, so it doesn't need to come down . They make a 2 piece rear main for the 4.0 Jeep so you can leave the trans in.

So you can loosen the crank enough by taking off the end cap to spin in a new 2 piece? In that case the rear main seal price is a gouging.
Again my only hands on experience lately is a '90 4.2 straight 6 But with pulling the pan, washing the pan, pounding out the rock dents in the pan, Repainting it, switching out the rear main seal and pan gasket, putting everything back together and doing this on my back in the driveway..It only took me 2 hrs including a beer break towards the end.
If that's worth $1500 I am definitely in the wrong business.

Haha I should have said on the 5.9 the rear main is one peice! So the trans has to come out. No matter how many beers I have when I do change em it takes me more then 2 hours.

It might save you some aggravation and cash.

RockAuto has "old" design Fel Pro rear main for $14.85 + shipping or "new" for $26.79+ shipping
