repair to cylinder wall

Does any one know if you can repair a deep mark on a cylinder wall? I have #53 block that is not cracked and in good shape except for the mark. I have heard of people welding and grinding and then boring, is this true? Thanks

you can have it bored out at the machine shop. once or twice I can't recall. if its not repaired by then, the machine shop can sleeve the hole.

Don't weld on a cylinder wall of a parent metal engine that you ever expect to use again...........I used to do that as a last resort to remove stuck liners on old 3406 Cats. a few hot passes with a mig contract the liner enough after it cools to pull it out by hand.
