Removing intank lift pump

After my second intank lift pump and injector pump replacment, on Dodge of course, I am ready to become my own warranty station by replacing with a FASS 95 gph pump. My question is how do I plumb into the tank with the FASS since I have the intank lift pump?

I have the same problem.....accept for the many parts dodge has replaced for you. I want to get rid of my in-tank pump which was installed under warranty...I have both the in-tank pump and the engine mounted carter pump runnin at the same time. I have found out, which I previously thought was not true, is that the carter pump will still pull fuel from the tank with the in-tank pump off. So you dont nessicarily need to remove the in-tank pump to get fuel from the tank...but I think that the pump would slow the fuel pickup. I am planning on taking the in-tank pump out when it gets a little warmer...when I drop the tank I will take the whole assembly out and try to figure out how to bypass the pump or completely remove it.

If anyone has attempted this before I too would like to know what they did.

Andy, what is your fuel pressure running both of these pumps in tandem together? Also how are the two spliced together?

My fuel pressure guage is pegged at 16 psi with both of those pumps running. Doesnt go below 16 ever...even with a trailer at WOT

The in-tank pump had a wiring harness with a relay that hooked up to the stock harness for the stock engine mounted pump. I just wired both pumps to the relay. And it worked no blown fuses.

With the in-tank pump i get about 4 psi bumping the starter. And the engine mounted pump I get about 7 psi bumping the starter. And both of those pressures you can see the guage slowly rise to its peak pressure. When both pumps are working in tandem it goes strait to 16...not slowly rising either...one second it is at 0 the next is 16.

Just thinking outloud Andy, I wonder what a Vulcan line kit would do with the pump moved to the frame? Once again if anyone knows what is involved to remove the intank lift pump to set up for a fass let me know.

On a 3rd gen truck with the lift pump in the tank, FASS has you adding a new fuel pickup in the tank (removal of tank, drill and install new pickup tube). I'm guessing it's the same for your truck. Or you can try something new and be a "cowboy" and try an efi pump for much less money. Check my sig...
