Rear End
Has anyone changed the fluid in the rear end? Is there a gasket on the cover plate or is it just permatex? I am also told that i have to use 12 ounces of a synthetic addative when putting lube back in. Do I use those 12 ounces then some 80w-90?

We tow heavy, so I changed the rear axle lubricant over to Royal Purple synthetic 85W-140. The Royal Purple has the friction modifier for the limited slip blended in, and no additional friction modifier was required in my application.
The cover does not use a gasket. I resealed mine with the Permatex gray high-temperature RTV sealant (it looks just like what the factory used) and haven't had any problems.

There are a number of internet sources (none of which I have the URL for), but I was fortunate, I guess. My local NAPA, O'Reilly's, etc. carry Royal Purple.

Well... I got a question! I had the dealer change my rear end fluid at 30,000 and it now 36,000 and the fluid is getting dark! I mean DARK! What's up with this? Did I miss something?
