How do you replace the rear rotor's on a DRW on a 2002 3500? Do you have to remove the hub/axle, or does the rotor just bolt to the hub?

 

I just did the rear rotors on my 01.5 drw and you pull the axle out and then you need a 2 9/16 thin wall socket to get the locknut off.Don't forget to pull the little locking clip and don't lose it. The hub assembly will come off,there are 8 bolts on the back of the rotor hope you have a long snipe and an impact mine were in there tight,not a tough job just time comsuming and if you don't have that special socket-get one.You also may want to replace the park brake shoes while you're at it.

 

I ordered the following parts 2 rear rotors, wheel bearings, axle seal, brake pads, and ebrake pads. Is there anything else that I might need other than the socket? How do you pull the axels out? Do you have to take the pumpkin cover off the rear-end and remove the center pin in order to pull the axles out?

Does anyone have any photo's on this procedure. I have done rear axle seals and pads before, but I have never done this on a drw truck or a Dodge.

The axles will slide right out after you remove the bolts from the hub.You don't need to put grease on the bearings as they are wet lubed with the diff gear oil,before you put them in douse them with the same 80-90 gear oil that you are putting in your rear end.If you do pull the cover off your diff expect some ugly sludge if it hasn't been done in a while.You can drain it put the cover back on and fill it with diesel run the truck in 3rd gear while up on the jack stands for about 2 mins.Drain it and your diff will be free of all the crap.Fill er up with a good 80-90w gear oil and don't use synthetic and don't forget to add limited slip additive if you have posi trac.
