Really Low Power when Engine is Cold
Really Low Power when Engine is Cold
Its an '01 with manual tranny. Truck has no mod's.
It has a new lift pump and fuel filter.
When you start the truck it will idle fine.
If you press the accelarator the engine misses and makes white smoke. If you start driving it the engine will not go over 2k rpm's and the truck about 25 mph top speed.
After the truck runs for about 5 minutes it drives and operates normally all day.
Two days ago we drove the truck about 500 miles in one day with the cruise set on 80 on the highway and the engine never missed a beat, except that morning when it was cold.
Also, in reading the forums I thought it might be the IAT sensor. when we removed it there was no thermocouple type thing sticking out like I have seen in the pictures on here.
Is it possible that this fell out and a new IAT sensor might help this problem?
If this happened does the pice that fell out need to be retrieved and how?
Can anyone point me in the right direction to solve this issue?
Thanks in advance for your replies.

pull the codes, if an IAT is broke it will code, your symptoms sound exactly like a bad VP, again pulling codes will help confirm, hope you dont see a 0216. with an 01 you might be able to get the codes to show in the ODO window with the key on off trick
