Random loss of prime
Some times when I start my truck it will run for a few seconds and stall. I have to bleed it to get it running again, but it doesn't do it consistently, and I see no signs of leaks. Any good ideas appreciated.

Had a 89 Ford 7.3 with the problem, mine was an air leak somewhere before the injector pump and a bad check ball in the mechanical fuel pump. Fixed the problem by installing an electrical fuel pump, while waiting for the "wait to start" light to go off, the pump would reprime the system. No problem after that.

Yeah, inspect the check valve holding the return line to the side of the vp44. Also look very closely at the two wires running into the top of your fuel filter housing. This is the fuel heater and they have been known to leak ever so slightly. This is from experience.. Good luck...
