Question on NV4500 swap

Ok, so I have finally decided to switch from my 47re auto to an NV4500. I have read tons of threads about doing so and I havejust a few more questions.

1. Will I use any electrical plugs from the 47re harness?

2. Do I need to flash my PCM to become a standard so I won't throw code after code?

3. How hard is it to mount the hydraulics for the clutch?

4. Will my auto VP44 work ok with the stick or should an HO pump be put on?

5. Anything else that I may not have thought about that makes the swap difficult other than the obvious?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Not sure on all your questions but:

3. the hydraulics will need the piece that goes into the firewall. I think it's a bolt in piece It is basically just a special hole that the hydraulics snap into. The reservoir you can mount with 2 screws.

4. I think your VP is fine. I wouldn't put an HO pump on it.

5. Are you sourcing out parts individually or do you have a donor truck? (for items like pedals, crossmembers, that hydraulic mount, floor console, etc) Also, is your truck 2wd or 4wd? Also, what are you doing about your steering column?

I'd be tempted to go through the tranny & at least replace syncros, bearings & seals. At 150k, mine will grind going into 3rd if i don't shift slow & wait for it to catch up. A parts truck would be handy else you'll be nick;ed & dimed.

I tranny came out of a truck that was running and driving. All parts including hydraulics are there. It will come with a new clutch, pressure plate, fork, and throughout bearing. The 5th gear nut has been fixed already. I am worried about throwing codes through the PCM more than anything. After I do the neutral safety switch, backup lights, and clutch safety switch wiring is there anything else to worry about? Will I need to have the computer reflashed to accept the manual tranny? TIA

That's an interesting question because there are auto trans codes I believe.

Exactly. I've heard some people say not to worry about it, but others have problems with DTCs and 2000k rpm revs on first startup. So....what gives is still a question in my mind.

3. Careful what year your truck is and the truck the hydraulics came out of. They changed the mounting style in 97-98. The older style went through the firewall and locked in with a 1/4 or 1/2 turn. The newer style in 98 and up bolts in with 2 bolts on the slave.

4. P-pump it! Your VP will be fine till it takes a #2.

Is your truck 2wd? If so, what are you going to do about the speedometer? I just got all the stuff to do the swap and I was curious about this. Do the 24 valves have a speed sensor that goes to the rear axle or somerthing? I know the 12 valve and 4wd trannies have a speedo cable.... not sure how its gonna work yet... Thanks
