Pressure port on vp44

anyone know if the fitting on the banjo bolt on the side of the vp44 is for the dealer to measure lift pump pressure? The line seems to come from the fuel filter. Can I hook a gauge in the truck up to this fitting? It looks like an air conditioning fitting with a plastic cap.

You can measure the lift pump pressure from the shrader valve on the side of the injection pump. It is not the prefered location but still workable. What year is your truck? Fill in your signiture so people can help you out a lot better. A lot of people with 98-99 trucks use test port on top of the fuel filter housing. There is a test port on the back of the fuel filter housing on 00-01 trucks. You will probly want to put an inline T- fitting in the line that goes from the fuel filter to the injection pump to get your pressure reading. Make sure to use a needle valve if you are using a mech gauge (NAPA stocks them). You can search for "fuel pressure gauge" and stuff and get a lot of opininons on fuel pressure gauge set-ups.

Thanks, CTDboy. This truck is an 01 6 spd. I have 3 5.9L Cummins and one 855/290hp Cummins. I will fill in the signature, sorry.

I have mine mounted on the floor just infront of the 4x4 lever. Has been working flawlessly for about a year now. I got 13psi at idel and 8-9psi hard on it.

Looks nice! did you have to bleed the line to the gauge firstor did it self bleed? Also where did you get the schrader connector to 1/8NPT fitting, and from the photo it looks like a liquid filled gauge?

I got most of my part though napa you wont find a fitting that has the valve core you will have to remove the core with a core remover tool dont worry it wont spray fuel every were it will just dribble and i did not think about it when i did mine but i did not fill the line with fuel first i just hooked it up and let the lift pump re prime every thing and all was well and yes its just a plain ol liq filled gauge nothing speciall it was a white face that matched my issaporo gauges so i ran with it. there is no back lighting on this gauge either so i took a projector light a mini blue one and wired it up to a keyed on power source to shine on it
