P1689 under load

Hey guys every time my truck starts to build boost it gives out just long enough to droo boost preassure and check engine light comes on don't know how much boost it kicks out at as I don't have a gauge yet as long as I baby the truck and get up to speed slowly it's ok so I don't think it's a fueling issue but don't have gauges yet so I don't know what my preassure is I pulled and cleaned my map and iat sensors can't get good enough grip on wastegate to see if it's sized what do yall think

That code is a communication error between ECM and injection pump module data link circuit failure between ECM and fuel injection pump. Generally meaning that the PSG on the VP is failing. There are a few other things you can look for like weak battery conditions, corroded or loose connections/grounds, alternator AC noise output levels, and fuel system relays malfunctioning to see if any of those solve the problem.

But unfortunately though there isnt much I can do to help you without knowing what gauges would be telling you. Its critical to know what the fuel pressure is on your truck at all times and especially now when you're dealing with a potential fuel system related issue.

If you arent ready to invest in some gauges then try picking yourself up a test gauge. I dont know if the auto parts stores where you live rent them but usually they do. The places around here rent a nice test gauge too. Then you can at least know what the idle and driving fuel pressures are.

Gauges are no where to be skimping since its a device you're completely relying on giving you the most accurate information. So there's no point in having an unreliable gauge.

The companies most chosen for their quality is ISSPRO, Autometer, Dipricol, Dakota Digital, and a couple others I cant think of at the moment. Sometimes the best places to find these gauges are at some of the forum vendors like Geno's Garage or Vulcan Performance or of the many others who offer the best price.

I'm not sure what you're asking. What would be crystallized? The only crystallization I've heard of on the ISB is where Bosch uses lead free solder in the PSG which isnt very tolerant to high heat. What are you throwing parts at?

Chrysler-ised not chrystalized lol Chrysler buys the engines from cummins and from that point it's their baby cummins has nothing else to do with the engines. we as a cummins certified dealer can't do warranty work on a dodge pickup because it's not technically a "cummins" engine anymore it's a Chrysler and the newer isb engines are even designed differently but my question is can I use the laptop with cummins softwear to read engine data on my truck no one seems to know for sure. The engine and ecm are from cummins so any thoughts?

That makes more sense..... I cant comment on whether or not Cummins software will work but that said, the only time I can think of you'd need to tap into the system is if you were reflashing the ECM. And it doesnt sound like your issue is with the ECM since you're not describing any of those signs. If the PSG is failing then the only logical option is replacing the entire VP.

Has a newer vp from scheid I know new parts fail but at least it's under warranty lol is there a way to test the vp's psg while on the truck or would I have to pull it to have it tested? Also installed fass at same time as vp

Unfortunately there is no way to test the PSG for continuity while the engine still runs. There is a way to hotwire the VP just to assure the engine idles so that you can rule out VP function if a truck isnt running, but thats not your issue.

Yes, its nice that its still under warranty but I'm not sure they'd even warrant it unless the engine wouldn't run, and at that, they'd most likely diagnose the VP when they received it under warranty claim. One thing you can look for though is whether or not the PSG is of the newest version. You're looking for the 028 version as anything other means they sold you a rebuilt VP with an older still functioning PSG. Certainly NOT what you want but its amazing how many vendors still sell VP's with old PSG's on there.
