Overboost Problem?

Overboost Problem?
2001 Dodge Ram 4x4, no programmer, Fass Pump making 14lbs at idle and a lift pump pressure gauge.
On hard acceleration, towing nothing, the truck will defuel. It happens every time when I hit it hard trying to come up to speed in heavy traffic. When this happens, RPMs stay the same, lift pump fuel pressure stays the same and when I let up off the pedal the truck resumes fueling and runs fine.
What research I have done points to the Wastegate or Map sensor. I have no boost gauge on the truck, I rarely tow and when I do it is all relatively low weight I am towing. I really do not want to add a boost gauge unless absolutely necessary.
I know that guessing is not the ideal thing, but I am looking for some direction on where to start diagnostics.
Thanks.. gary

Check the operation of your wastegate. If it's stuck the truck needs to defuel to avoid overrevving the charger.
This should cause an overboost code. Check with the key trick- move key from accessories to on and back three times never starting the engine. You should be able to read the codes on the odometer.

You may have a bad spot at the top end of your APPS. See if you can associate the problem with a repeatable throttle position.
