Ok Guys I need some help.
Ok Guys I need some help.
I have a 98.5 24 valve, 165,000 plus miles. Heading home yesterday I filled up. When I got home I pulled by my driveway so I could back in. As soon as I stoped to back in the truck died. Cranks like crazy but no fire. I got some help to push it in the driveway. I can hear the lift pump running so I broke the line loose at the injection pump. Seems like lots of fuel getting to the pump. Next I broke loose lines 1 3&4, Fuel running out of #4 while lift pump is running, nothing from 1&3. I picked up a friends Snap-On Micoscan the only codes are P0122 (TPS) and P1693 companian code.
So what else should I check?
If I need a injection pump wheres the best place to buy one?
What fuel presure gauge do you like?
Thanks for all the help.

It always makes me wonder when I hear "right after I filled up". Did you check to make sure you got diesel and not gas? Others have had problems with even the station putting the wrong stuff in the tanks.

Andy, you're making me paranoid to fill up. If I taste the fuel before I fill up, that should be okay, right? Is there a difference in taste between #1 or #2?

Actually, I go by smell. With the nozzle to my nose, #1 is lighter and more delicate. #2 is bolder, heavier with a strong finish.

OK....try this....get some GAS on a rag and and hold it up to the intake on the motor (Disable the heater grid! Note i didnt say turbo!! Can use either but i find this less violent) Have a friend try to start. If it catches and runs, let it run for a while and warm up a bit. Then kill it. Then try to start it again. If it doesn't start....more than likely a VP44 baised on past history of these motors. That is how mine went out. I had to start in on Either every time. Do all that after you verify that its diesel in the tank rather than gas. APPS would not cause a no start condition. You didnt get the dreaded P0216 so you may still have some hope.....but i didnt either when mine went out!!

Ok guys It looks like my Pump is toast.
I did find a Cummins test tool I hadent heard about(Part #3163834) it hooks up to the back of the pump to eliminate the trucks wiring and ECM. If it wont run on the test box your pump is dead as long as you have good presure from the lift pump and no air in the fuel. I got my truck to run on the box after alot of cranking but as soon as you push the low idle buttom on the test box it would die. If I shut it off and reconnected the truck harness it wouldnt start and after I would hook up the test box I would have to crank it 15 to 20 times befor it would restart. My Friend at the truck shop(who ownes the test box) said the pump is dead.
So where should I buy a pump from?
What fuel gauge do you recommend?
