oil, trans, blockheater questions?

I resently picked up this rig so ive got a few questions.

Its got a 6 speed manuel. Sometimes i have trouble getting into first when stopped. If i shift it into 2 then into 1st it will work though. Is 1st gear not sincroed?
Secound question sometimes i have difficulty getting into revearse. Ill put it into revearse but it isnt until i start letting off on the clutch that it will slip the last little bit and engage the gear. Does anyone else have similar problems?
Third question sometime shifting is a little tough it seems to be only when its cold though is that normal?

Oil in the fuel. Ive heard of talk of running 2 cycle in the fuel to help lubricate? Whats your all opinion on this.

Blockheaters. Its dam cold hear its been under freezing since september. so were would you install a block heater on it. Oil pan, freeze plug, inline in the cooling system. etc any ideas and other helpful information on this would be very helpfull.

Thanks

I believe I read on this site, some time ago, that they ALL had the block heaters installed,...HOWEVER, you need to install the actual plug for it (or wireing harness..or whatever you call it) if it does not have one. I wish I could remember more.

??Apparently some come with plugs and some don't,..but they all have they actual heater??

Just my 2 cents.

I think that's true Puke....they all ('01 & '02 at least) come with the freeze plug block heater. I use mine on a timer before work for about 4hrs when it's around 30*F or less.
Robins....do a good search on the turbo side of the motor for a cord and plug. Mine was/is there. Now, on your other Q's...my reverse does the same thing all the time even after I swapped to the RP tranny fluid. It doesn't seem to harm anything. Also my 1st gear when cold is kinda sticky, and I don't think it's got the syncro...could be and probably wrong though....lol
Sometimes I'll run a pint of ashless TC3 oil per tank but it's usually PowerService from WallyWorld. Never had any gelling probs even at -45*F in AK.
I've only got 71k and some change on the clock, how 'bout you?

I bought it about 5 week ago with 74k and change now im just under 80k, i do just a little driving.

Thats what i kinda figured on the tran.

Well im going to go find a little cardboard then and start rolling around in the snow trying to find the sob.

What is the difference between the addtives that you guys use a marvel mystery oil?

If you have a block heater it shouldn't be difficult to see from the top. It'll be mounted in a frost plug hole directly behind the oil filter. I think it's the frontmost hole.

The plug end should be behind and under the right headlight.

I run 2 stroke oil sometimes in my truck. It quiets the pump noise down quite a bit. Never noticed any power/mileage gains or anything. But the reduced pump noise is good enough for me. Running some bio will also do that too.

Glad you found the heater cord. I'd forget about the 2 cycle oil and get the Power Service, it's designed for diesel and will protect your fuel from gelling. Wally world has it pretty cheap.

Ive got some that i use when it get real cold. Ive always thrown Marvel Mystry oil in though. Is there any real difference between the two.

Another question would it maybe more advatages to run atf instead of 2 stroke. I know a bunch of old boys that swear by it. just curious.

ATF now days have friction modifiers in it. It will damage your injector pump. Better off to use a diesel additive.

Seems to me it would be better to run something in your fuel that is designed for combustion.

Talking

You should listen the the DTR members, some of them might even know what they are talking about.
We have all been through this a hundred times.
Lots of people stack the MMO with the Power Service, PS is designed as a Diesel additive and won't let the fuel gel if used with every tank & will raise the Cetane a little, MMO and 2 stroke won't.
Stay away from the ATF it's not the same thing as it was when the old timers put it in their dinosaur's.
As for me i might not know what i'm talkin about.

Agree totally with Scott, PS is designed specifically for green. 2 stroke oil is just handy for me.. usually have a quart or two in my toolbox. Definatley no ATF fluid!!!!
