Oil filter TSB fun

After reading the TSB on oil filters http://dodgeram.info/tsb/2001/09-004-01.htm , I found my local fast lube shop (Oil Can Henrys) had put a Fram made filter on my truck, it's the only brand of filter they use. I had to run around to four different parts stores to find an oil filter on the aproved list. The Fram was put on at the trucks first oil change at 1500 Miles and I changed it out with a aproved filter at 4500 Miles so hopefully no damage was done. I always use the same lube place so there is a service record for my truck in case of warrenty issues. I had the lube shop put the filter info on the invoice in case of warrenty issues. I gave them a copy of the TSB in hopes they would start stocking aproved filters. I called several other lube shops in town, non of them are using aproved filters. I would have thought the lube places would keep track of this type of issue, I guess not. Maybe when they have to buy someone a new cummins they will pay more attention.

The manufacturer of the filter would probably be the responsible party should the filter result in engine damage.
However, it would be your truck not running, and it would be your $$$ paying an attorney to attempt to get your broken truck fixed.
In either case, an approved oil filter is cheap insurance.
You can alway bring your own filter for them to use.
Another thing to consider is does your local "Lube Shop" use approved oil for a diesel? ???

I just use the dealer, not that much money. I drive less than 20K miles a year so the truck will be out of warranty in 5 years. I've never driven a vehicle that long in my life :P I would be bored by then. I figure if I use the dealer and follow DC recommended maintance, I'm covered for the warranty period. No he said she said. Cost difference is not worth the hassle. 8)

Re:Oil filter TSB fun

All of the shops around here use Delo 400 15-40, which is my preference anyway. I used Delo 400 for ten years at a equipment rental company I used to work for, great oil. I' think I'm going to order a 6 pack of fleetgaurd and just plan on bringing my own from now on. The guys at NAPA said their filters were made by WIX, wich was not on the aproved list either. The number of Cummins these fast lube places deal with you think they would have it figured out. They charge an extra $5.00 for t he Cummins filter anyway.

It's still not on the approved list.
From experiences with them in the past.....I won't use one on any my vehicles.

Had a problem with a Baldwin once, took out an injection pump on a V903 Cummins, not cheap to fix. If you use them tale a peek inside first an make sure there’s nothing in there that shouldn’t be.
