Oil Filter?

Hey guys, I know I am supposed to use Fleetguard Stratapore LF3894 for my truck, and I always have, but today I went out to change the oil and dropped the plug, and THEN realized I had used my last Stratapore filter. Well, of course it was Sunday, and nobody but the Chain parts stores were open (even the local cummins distributor was closed on sunday, even though their website says parts is open for a little while on Sundays). So I was stuck between Fram (no way in hell) or Mobil 1. I chose the mobil 1 ($11... ouch). Basically was wondering if anyone else out there has had any experience with these filters, and if I am safe using them on the truck for this one oil change interval? If not, I can switch it out later this week for the Stratapore when I get up to Mid-States to get more of them. Anyways, let me know, thanks-

I used a Mobil 1 filter on my old F150. Way better than fram. The Mobil 1 is a nice filter, has a thick can, a unique synthetic media. It is a good filter, only thing that sucks about it like you found out, is the price.

Check this website out. Click here. A very good anylisis of a lot of oil filters. Very useful information for the gasser crowd.

I use NAPA Gold filters, I believe they are made by Wix. Way better than the Fram filters and overall have had good reviews as far as I have seen.

Where exactly are these reviews??? I have heard of more than one Wix coming apart and clogging piston cooling jets...resulting in an engine teardown.

Its been awhile, Ill see if I can find something. To be honest its the first bad rap Ive heard of for the NAPA/Wix filters. I use them because I believed the research I did, Id change in a heart beat if I saw their reliability proved to be poor.

Firehawk....my intention is NOT to start another oil filter war but from what Ive heard the Wix filters arent really much better than the Frams (some guys will undoubtedly disagree and Im sure we'll hear from them). I just know that a member on this site and one on another was complaining about engine problems from the Wix.

there is only 1 filter brand to run on a Cummins....whether you agree or not. If you are using anything other than a Fleetguard on an 04...well you are misinformed

Couldn't find the TSB for the 3rd gens, but this one is good enough for me.

Y'all check out the link I posted earlier. If you read it you will see that WIX and Fram are not the same.

Been using WIX for the past 3 changes and no probs so far...Only use WIX cause no one down here carries Fleetgaurd in stock. I will have to call Geno's for that order.

I've used the Mobil 1 on my 4.0L jeeps and never had any problems. I'll agree the WIX's are, were good filters. I don't believe they have the quality that WIX filters of old did. Napa and CarQuest oil filters are WIX's. I'm not sure you can even get a filter anymore that says "WIX" on, I'm propably wrong but its been a while since I've seen one. I only use BALDWIN filters in my beast.
