Oil Drain Plug Torque?

Had a small leak at the oil drain plug that wouldn't go away. I replaced the plug with one from Geno's (with the 9/16 hex). Still leaks a little bit.

What is the torque spec for the drain plug???

44 ft-lbs is the torque specification.

Me personally, I have always just snugged it and never bothered with a torque wrench.

I never turn for tight, just snug. Last thing I want to do is strip the threads (which I have read stories about here).

Good luck.

Make sure its not resid from you puke bottle leaking down and back the pan to the drain plug.

I put a Femco on mine. It comes with a threaded cap. Hasn't leaked since and no thread wear.

stock plugs will "crack" if they are over tightened, and it will leak thru this crack, its easy to see, if you look close. I broke my first drain plug, after replacing it I went and got a Fumoto valve, now to drain the oil I just open the valve

Not a great idea on a 4WD...

I tightened down that new Geno's plug with a larger ratchet (1/2") to more than snug... still leaks - slight drip actually. I'll go for a torque wrench now and see at what point it stops leaking. I'm thinking 44 ft/lbs won't do it (I'm sure I was able to go that high with the regular ratchet).

I'm betting you already broke it! wipe it clean and you will see oil leak thru the face of the plug and NOT around the gasket area its self.

I'll try to find my old one and take a pic for you

leak

I too am fighting an oil leak at the drain plug, I read that the factory plug is a POS, so I bought a Geno's HD plug instead of the valve. In a 4x4 I feel the valve is asking for an engine swap.

Were you able to get the leak stopped?
