Well I don't know why I didn't post this ALOT earlier, but I have noticed a noise coming from my tranny when I start off in 2nd gear. It sounds somewhat like when you are in too high of a gear at too low of a speed/rpm. But its not that exact noise. The sound is difficult to describe: it almost sounds like a faint grinding noise, but it isn't, or atleast I can't feel any grinding. It only does it for a split second, then my goes away when my speed/rpm rise, and only when starting in 2nd gear. It doesn't do it when I start off in 1st gear. Could this be because of my lift or tires making it hard on the tranny? Any help or ideas?

With larger tires, clutch slippage might be an issue. When I slipped my stock clutch after adding the DD2's, it was a dull ratcheting sound.

More likely is a torsional "gear rattle" in the transmission. This happens when the engine passes through a torsional critical speed - the torsional vibration resonates through the transmission and rattles the gears through their backlash clearance - or rattles the springs in the clutch disc, compressing and then extending them. This one has more of a metallic sound than the clutch slip, and you might even be able to feel the buzz in the shifter.

The rule of thumb for torsional criticals is to get through them quickly - don't keep the engine operating in that range. If you're just passing through them, chances are you'll not notice any degradation in the life of your transmission.

Could it be clutch chatter? I know my dad's Vette has that when starting off. Sounds like rocks rolling around in a tin can. It's normal on his car. Don't know bout your truck though.
